The most easily overlooked parts in the car maintenance process

Except for a very small number of important electrical connectors in the car, gold contacts are used, and most of the other connectors are made of copper-zinc alloy. Under normal conditions, its reliability is guaranteed, but if the car is exposed to high temperature and high humidity for a long time , Running in a bumpy environment, these joints may have loosening, rust, poor contact and other failures.

The daily maintenance of a car is closely related to the service life of the car and the working conditions, and the daily maintenance does not generally refer to the maintenance of the entire vehicle. In the specific operation process, the daily maintenance will always be subdivided into the various parts of the vehicle. Maintenance, and all parts are maintained, the working condition of the whole vehicle will naturally improve. In many people’s minds, maintenance is nothing more than replacing consumables such as three filters and engine oil. In fact, during the operation of the vehicle, many parts are constantly worn and the scope of routine maintenance and inspection is far from limited to the three filters, oil, brake pads, spark plugs, etc. In many places, if you don’t pay attention to inspection and maintenance, say Uncertainty will occur when there is an unexpected failure. The following are several components that are often overlooked in routine maintenance:

ignition wire

Many people know that spark plugs need to be replaced regularly, but they ignore the maintenance of other parts of the ignition system. The ignition high-voltage line is one of them. When the engine is running, there is often a high-voltage pulse current of tens of thousands of volts on the ignition wire. Because it works in a high temperature, dusty, and vibrating environment for a long time, it will inevitably be aging or even damaged. Therefore, like spark plugs, it is also a consumable that needs to be replaced frequently. The aging and damage of the ignition wire will greatly reduce the ignition energy, increase the fuel consumption of the engine, and decrease the power, and severely cause misfire, which is a fatal failure for the engine with a three-way catalytic converter. According to foreign experience, even if there is no failure, a set of ignition high-voltage cables needs to be replaced every 20,000 kilometers. Many domestic car owners often think of checking the ignition system when the engine is running unstable or even unable to start. However, by this time, the fuel wasted due to the potential damage to the ignition system components and the wear and tear on the engine have far exceeded Its own value. In addition, components such as the distributor cover, the ignition head, the ignition coil, and the spark plug plug in the ignition system should also be within the scope of routine maintenance and inspection.

Brake disc

The brake disc and the brake shoe are a pair of friction pairs. When the brake shoe is worn, the brake disc will also have a certain amount of wear. This principle is very simple, but many people only pay attention to replacing the shoe when maintaining the vehicle. , But often neglect to replace the brake disc. The consequences of excessive brake disc wear are very serious. First of all, due to the reduced surface flatness, the actual contact area becomes smaller, resulting in insufficient braking force; in addition, the thermal capacity of the brake disc after wear is reduced, and the brake is continuously braked. When the temperature rises quickly, it is more likely to produce thermal decay. All of these are very dangerous in driving. Some repair shops put severely worn brake discs on lathes for surface treatment, commonly known as “discs”. In this way, the surface is flat, but the discs become thinner, and the thermal degradation during braking will be more serious. In addition, the high temperature generated during processing will anneal the brake disc, further reducing the mechanical strength. Generally speaking, after the brake shoe is replaced 2 to 3 times, the brake disc should also be replaced. Don’t feel bad about these hundreds of dollars. After all, human life is priceless.

Generator Bearing

Many repairers are now jokingly called “handsmen”, meaning they can only change parts, not repairs. In fact, as long as some parts are maintained in accordance with regulations, their life can be greatly extended, and generators are one of them. A few years ago, the generator was regarded as an expensive component in the car. At that time, there was a whole set of maintenance system for the generator in the car maintenance regulations, such as lubricating on time, replacing the bearing, adjusting and replacing the carbon brush, adjusting the contact. Point gaps, etc. Now as the price of parts decreases, the routine maintenance of generators has gradually been ignored by people. In fact, if the bearings are inspected and replaced in accordance with the above regulations, the life of the generator can be extended by at least one time. Generally speaking, after the vehicle has traveled 60,000 to 80,000 kilometers, the generator should be checked and repaired. In addition, the bearings of the water pump, power steering pump, and air-conditioning compressor should also be checked regularly.

Therefore, during routine maintenance, you should focus on checking the connectors of the computer, sensors, nozzles and other components on the car. If you find any looseness or rust, you can treat it with petroleum jelly or replace it with a new plug.

From the perspective of use, chassis components are actually more prone to problems than the engine. The parts that are prone to chassis failure are mainly concentrated in:

Shock absorber

Oil leakage is a precursor to damage to the shock absorber. In addition, driving bumps on bad roads is obviously aggravated or the braking distance becomes longer is also a sign of damage to the shock absorber.

Suspension control arm rubber sleeve

After the rubber sleeve is damaged, the vehicle will have a series of malfunctions such as deviation and swing, even if the four-wheel alignment is done, it will not help. If you check the chassis carefully, damage to the rubber sleeve is easy to find.

Steering rod

The looseness of the steering rod is a serious safety hazard. Therefore, during routine maintenance, you must carefully check this part. The method is very simple: hold the lever and shake it vigorously. If there is no shaking, it means everything is normal. Otherwise, the ball head or the lever assembly should be replaced.

Exhaust pipe

The exhaust pipe is one of the most easily damaged parts under the car, so don’t forget to take a look during the overhaul. Especially exhaust pipes with three-way catalytic converters should be checked carefully.
